After a two-game losing streak, the boys’ basketball team played a big MSL East game at Wheeling . Despite the recent losses, the Knights were fired up.
The game went back and forth for a few minutes in the first quarter, but with 3:07 left in the first quarter, the Knights look the lead for good, leading 41-25 at the half with a 15-0 run in the second quarter.
During that run, senior Jack Redding said that the key was ball movement.
“Our guys were moving the ball really well,” he said. “This allowed us to get good shots and easy looks on offense. On defense we just continued to stop them and force turnovers.”
The Knights were in control the entire second half and won the game 72-56. Redding led the Knights in scoring with 18 points and sophomore Mike LaTulip had 16.
Coach John Camardella said that he was very happy with the team’s defensive effort after giving up 74 points in their last game to Barrington.
“Our ball pressure was great all night.” said Camardella. “We were able to force them to make a lot of turnovers and we capitalized off of them on offense.”
Redding agreed with Camardella.
“The key for us tonight was ball pressure.” he said. “We had them off balance all game and they were not able to handle our defensive pressure which made them turnover the ball.”
This was a big win for the Knights, according to Camardella.
“It’s always important to win the MSL East games.” he said. “They are always very important. It also was good to get back on track and end our two-game losing streak.”
