PHS Octoberfest: Best Halloween treats

By Maggie Devereux
Online Managing Editor
1170200Sure trick-or-treating has it’s perks. But the best treats of Halloween are the ones that don’t come in fun size packages. My favorites are those delicious snacks that sound perfect while carving pumpkins or heading to a haunted house. And I’m giving out my list full of treats without any tricks.
1. Taffy apples: There’s no time during the year that I crave carmel apples more than I do during October. Seeing people’s statuses about apple picking makes me think back to carmeling our own apples with my family. The sweet carmel goes perfect with a sour and crunchy apple. And luckily a quick run over to Mariano’s does the trick nicely.
2. Candy Corn: It’s not Halloween without these little guys in a bowl on my kitchen counter. I’m not sure what it is about them, considering they aren’t the most flavorful, yet something makes them a Halloween traditon. I remember when I was litte I used to not eat the yellow part because i hated eating the end on broccoli and the crust on bread, so I guess it looked like a stem to me.

I had one last Saturday and I have to say it put me in more of a Halloween mood. I love the fact that a tiny sucker is able to capture almost all of the deliciousness of a carmel apple. The only problem is when the sucker and carmel get stuck between your teeth.
4. Pumpkin Spice Latte: It only comes once a year, so I

suggest you take advantage of it. This hot treat has the perfect blend of pumpkin, spices, and yes, enough coffee to keep you awake through countless Halloween activities. October nights can get pretty chilly, so pick one up to warm your soul and bring out the ghoul inside.
