Basketball programs host blue-white scrimmage

By Connor Graver, associate editor-in-chief
Prospect Basketball began with a new style of scrimmage on Nov. 9. The boys and girls varsity squads held their annual blue-white scrimmage except the girls played the 1st and 3rd quarters, with the boys taking the 2nd and 4th.
“Having the chance to get us all together to really emphasize this team of Prospect Basketball is the whole point,” boys head coach John Camardella said.
Both squads had exciting performances with flashy plays on both sides. The white team was led by senior Ben Zellmer with 11 points and rebounds rebounds, while the blue team had a strong performance from senior Abbey Danciu with eight points and two assists.
Girl’s head coach Marie Miller got her first action as full time head coach, after being interim coach for a portion of the season last year. She was pleased with what she saw.
“It was nice to get those jitters out,” Miller said. “I’m very glad we’re one team instead of playing against each other.”
The scrimmage was also the unofficial start of the winter sports season, with multiple parent meetings and introduction of winter athletes. The boys team will kick their season off on Nov. 19 at the Saint Viator Thanksgiving Tournament, and the girls will start theirs on Nov. 27 against Barrington.
“I didn’t think I would like to scrimmage this early,” Camardella said. “But this gives us film, we can get a good look at it and we have a week and a half to get ready.”
