The Knights came out strong against rival Hersey on May 8. According to junior Alyssa Cacini, the team was able to string together hits at the right time.
Keeping close, the varsity softball team approached an important sixth inning to try to secure a MSL East victory. The score was tied 6-6 as the lead teetered back and forth throughout the game.
The Huskies were able to put five runs on the board in the sixth inning, the turning point in the game according to Cacini. Hersey shut down the Knights in the seventh inning to win the game 11-6.
“We were proud of our performance but we were disappointed it wasn’t quite enough to get the win,” Cacini said.
In this game, freshman Claire Doherty pitched for the Knights. Cacini was proud of the team this game because she thinks everyone contributed at key points.
Juniors Lauren Caldrone and Colleen Palczynski belted doubles for the Knights, but the loss dropped the Knights to 3-4 in MSL East play.
The last time these two teams met, the Huskies won the game by run rule, so Cacini thinks the Knights came into the game with an edge.
“It was nice to play them again and give them a good game on a team effort,” Cacini said.
