Banners with the nine seniors’ names hung down from the bleachers in Jean Walker Fieldhouse; fatheads with their faces on them lay in front of their names. It was a time honored tradition in high school sports: senior night.
“It definitely was a really special night for all the seniors,” senior forward Ashley Adams said. “It really was bittersweet because we’ve been playing with each other for almost eight or nine years so seeing all of our hard work pay off and that we all made it this far was really special.”

Each of the nine seniors had the chance to see the court and carry out the usual game plan: play like the Knights. However, after a cancelled practice the day prior, the team took a hard 59-45 loss to the Glenbrook South Titans.

With a very high-pace, intense first half, the Knights were able to hang on, only trailing 21-27 at the half. Contributing to this was senior guard Kayla Byrne with a couple key three-pointers to jumpstart the Knights’ offense. However according to Miller, this intensity was a result of a whole team effort.

“That comes from every single one of them, the five that are on the floor and the ones we have on the bench,” Miller said. “We pick each other up. It’s a real family, and we have a very ‘team first, me second’ mentality.”

Despite a great first half, the second was a different story. The Titans came out with quick passes, great outside shooting, and multiple drives down the lane that resulted in an easy layup. As Glenbrook South started pulling away in the third quarter, the Knights continued to put up a good fight with an aggressive defense and drawing many fouls in the paint.

Although a loss is always disappointing, both Miller and Adams ensure that the team is using this game as motivation for their MSL East matchup against Hersey on Friday.

“Our goal back in November wasn’t to beat [Glenbrook South]. Our goal back in November was to win the East. …. We just have to have a short memory, figure it out, and get over it real quick. We got a game to win on Friday,” Miller said.
