The Prospect girls’ water polo team is hosting an event called “Attacking Autism” (formerly known as “Ballin’ For Autism”) on April 12 at 6 PM at the Wheeling Pool, where they will be facing Hersey. Throughout the day, shirts will also be sold for the event.

Creator Meg Dix got the idea from the yearly “Volley for a Cure” event hosted by the girls’ volleyball team.  After Dix suggested the idea to the team, the event began fabricating itself.

“They said it was a great idea and they were all in for it,” Dix said.

After getting good feedback from coach Dick Mortensen as well, the event was expanded so that Hersey would also sell shirts and promote the event. “Attacking Autism” is the first water-polo fundraiser Dix knows of, but hopes to expand the event for future years.

Dix hopes to promote both water-polo and autism awareness with this single fundraiser.

“Since we don’t have a pool at this school there is not a lot of kids coming to our games, so I wanted to bring awareness to what the sport actually is and on top of that doing something good.”
