Indeed, if DeWyze makes it past the next cut on Wednesday, May 12, DeWyze will come back for a homecoming celebration on Friday, May 14. However, Prospect’s involvement in the celebration is still to be determined.
While it is a possibility that DeWyze could make an appearance at Prospect, it is also very possible that, while he will perform in a public concert in the area, he may not perform at the school due to DeWyze’s schedule with “American Idol.” However, whether or not he performs at Prospect, there will be school in session on that Friday.
The events on May 14 and DeWyze’s appearance schedule will depend on “American Idol’s” agenda. District 214 has been meeting with the Village of Mt. Prospect for the past few weeks regarding the celebration, but the show could not get involved in the preparations until he officially made it to the Top 4 on Wednesday, May 5.
Principal Kurt Laakso has been involved in the planning along with other district administrators. Laakso emphasized that the plans have been constantly changing and may continue to change with “Idol’s” involvement, so the schedule for May 14 is still “up in the air.” Either way, Prospect supports DeWyze, his pending homecoming and his success on the show.
“Plans to visit the school are pending ‘American Idol’s’ logistics and plan of action,” Laakso said. “It’s not a Prospect decision; we would be glad to welcome him, but a visit to the school would depend on ‘American Idol’s’ plan of action.”
