Q: What about Prospect led you to stay after student teaching here?
A: “I liked the environment and at the time I was interested in coaching soccer [and] there was an opening, so I coached boys and girls soccer and taught math right away.”
Q: How would you describe your experience at Prospect?
A: “It’s been wonderful, such a good community. A good mix of school, sports and activities and just being good people all together.”
Q: What are your best memories at Prospect?
A: “When I was coaching, running around the area, seeing the same people year after year when you go play at Hersey or Meadows. A lot of the colleagues I met in the building, I continued to work with them for 10 to 15 years.”
Q: What do you love about the culture here?
A: “When the community is a good place to live in, the schools generally reflect that, and so it’s a place where people get along pretty well.”
Q: What will you miss most about teaching?
A: “Getting to meet 100 new students every year. It’s a challenge to learn all those names at once, but there’s usually something interesting about every person.”
Q: What is next for you in retirement?
A: “I’m still working on it. I’d like to do something with data analysis.”
Q: How did you decide you wanted to try data analysis?
A: “I’ve been teaching statistics here, so that kind of piqued my interest. It’s a good way of making decisions and furthering a better way of life for everyone.”
Q: Any travel plans or big bucket list items?
A: “This summer we’re doing a two-week trip to North Carolina. It’s kind of a big family reunion with my wife’s side and my side.”
Q: What do you want your legacy to be at Prospect?
A: “To continue the traditions that have been established here. It’s a ship that can run itself, and that’s a testament to the people that walk into this building every year.”
Q: What type of advice would you give to students?
A: “Take advantage of the opportunities. There are teachers that are just so smart here, learn from them, don’t try to get away with doing as little as possible, soak up as much as possible.”
