Thursday morning the DECA team was off the compete at sectionals. While the competition went well the morning started off bumpy when only one bus showed up instead of two making the ride a little squished.
As soon as the students got to convention center in Rosemont they had to take a 50 point Economics and Business and then the students split off to their specific events to compete.
Paul Hennig and Cathy Fortuna run DECA, but had to judge events during the day, so they didn’t get to watch their students compete.
Hennig only got to watch one of the three award events at the end of the day, but when all the students came to their meeting area and he saw all the medals his students won he was excited.
Twenty-five students made it to state which is over 40% of the team and 87 medals were given out to Prospect competitors.
“[Fortuna and I] were both like ‘that’s pretty good’ [for 25 students to move on to state]. We were excited,” said Hennig.
The 25 students will be competing at state in March to qualify for the international competition in Florida.
