Hunter Hayes takes ‘one shot’ after years of soul searching

By Mackenzie Noelle, Executive Features Editor
The american singer-songwriter Hunter Hayes is back with new singles after taking a seven year break, besides a small album in that time. Hayes stole fans’ hearts in 2011 with his first album, Hunter Hayes, and will steal even more with his honest and vulnerable lyrics in his new songs.
“It’s been a process and I’m grateful for it. A lot of hurdles, a lot of soul searching obviously, and, as much as I hate to admit it, I just had to live a lot of life,” Hayes told HollywoodLife in an exclusive interview. “Going from 18 to 26 is a big jump, and even though there was an album between that, I wanted to honestly write from the same perspective, from the same sort of spirit that I had in my debut album. I was unfiltered then, and it took me awhile to get back to the unfiltered me.”
Hayes’ newest release on August 24, One Shot, is a song Hayes wants everyone to connect with. One Shot was inspired by a night he couldn’t remember and Instagram wouldn’t forget.
“It’s the first song that I’d written by myself in about five years,” Hayes said. “I wrote it assuming no one else would hear it so it almost borderlines on too honest. There are even some things I probably could have left out! We’ve all had those nights where we remember some of it but forget a lot of it and owning up to my own experience with that is a whole different kind of confessional through music that I’ve never attempted before.”
