This year for Haunted High School, coordinator and Italian teacher Lyn Scolaro was nervous that not many people would come because of the recent sicknesses.

Fortunately, that was not the case.  This year, Haunted High School, which took place on Thursday, October 29 from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted over 350 children, with 23 classrooms and around 100 students volunteers.
People who came to Haunted High School were asked to donate canned goods for St. Alphonsus’ food pantry, and seven large boxes of food were collected.
Arlington Heights resident Cindy Saunders came to Haunted High School this year for the first time with a large group and their kids, and thought it was a great idea.
“There’s good, quick activities that the kids like and can just walk in and do themselves,” Saunders said.  “We’re definitely coming back next year.”
Scolaro has heard a lot of positive feedback from parents who come to Haunted High School, and one of the main compliments she gets is geared toward the students helping out.
“The major compliment is about how nice and patient the students are with the little kids,” Scolaro said.
For senior Alli Chlapaty, who has volunteered for Haunted High School once before, it’s not hard for her to be in a good mood with the little kids.
“The kids are really cute and adorable and seem to be having a lot of fun,” Chlapaty said.  “It’s hard to not be positive around them.”
English teacher Erik Hammerstrom comes to Haunted High School every year, and loves the community feeling.
“It’s these kids first time at Prospect, so their first impression of high school is fun and welcoming,” Hammerstrom said.
