May 17, 2022
The girls’ track team took first place at IHSA Sectionals for the second year in a row on May 11. Out of 19 events, the Knights qualified for state in 12 of them.
These events consist of the 100m (Sr. Daria Tersina), 800m (So. Lily Ginsberg and Sr. Audrey Ginsberg), 300m low hurdles (Jr. Emma Letzig), 200m (Tersina), pole vault (Jr. Giselle Salom Hamwi and Sr. Anika Knipple), shot put (Sr. Madison Payne), long jump (Tersina), triple jump (Tersina), along with the 4x100m, 4x400m, and 4x800m relays advancing.
The girls have experienced an undefeated season winning all tri meets and invites they went to. The girls won the MSL East Division, the MSL conference, and kept their streak going by winning sectionals.
Junior Kate Parisi is one of the members on the 4x100m relay, and after not qualifying last year, is proud of the team’s accomplishment.
“I’m proud of everyone because I know everyone has worked so hard this year … so seeing everyone push through is really cool to see.” Parisi said.
Having a good dynamic with your team is always helpful when running relays and encouraging the team.
The team will take on the state competition this weekend at Eastern Illinois with high expectations stemming from an already successful season. Preliminary races will be held on Friday, May 20th, and qualifying athletes will compete in finals the following day, Saturday May 21st.
