Senior knights lead Prospect to win big at home
October 8, 2022
The senior stars came out to play on Senior Night at George Gattas Memorial Stadium, as the Prospect Football team won 55-27 against Buffalo Grove.
A career rushing game by senior running back Gavin Flanagan led the way for the Knights, as he finished with 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns. After the game, Flanagan was very grateful to the Knights offensive line.
“I want to give all thanks to my O-line. I’ve never had holes that big in my life. I just had a wide open field every time, thanks to all of them. It was just perfect blocks all the time,” Flanagan said. “They made it so easy.”
The Knights rushed out to a 28-7 lead after the 1st quarter and they never looked back, scoring with ease throughout the 1st half, taking a 42-13 lead into halftime.
Senior wide receiver Frank Covey also had a great game with a 29-yd TD catch and a two-point conversion. The Northwestern commit talked to KnightTV Live reporter Peter Radosh after the game about the special night, where he officially played his last regular season game at home for Prospect.
“It’s been a great four years… Hopefully we can get back home for another playoff game. This was a great game for Senior Night. I think everyone played well,” Covey said.
To add on to the tremendous Knights’ offense, the defense also had a monster night with seniors Jack Berman and Conor Mitchell both recording two interceptions each. One of Berman’s interceptions was 91-yard pick six, which gave the Knights a 55-13 lead in the 3rd quarter.
With a running clock, Buffalo Grove scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to bring the game to the final score of 55-27. With the win, the Knights move to a record of 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in MSL East conference play. Next up, the Knights play Wheeling at their field.
With two more games left in the regular season, Covey has his full concentration on the team. When asked about his future in football and academics, he responded with, “I’m excited to get down there (Northwestern) in the spring and start working out with those guys but right now, I’m just focused on this team.”
