Three of five Prospect vocalists selected sang for an Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) performance on Saturday, Nov. 16. The students had four hours of practice then performed on the same day.
Choir member and Junior Quanin Brooks was one of the students who was selected to perform. While at ILMEA he was able to make a friend from Libertyville.
“[Performing] was a super fun time, I was nervous but I had made a friend there so we were both nervous together so it made it a little easier,” Brooks said.
He wanted to audition for ILMEA because he was encouraged by his vocal teacher, Colleen Timler-Lingenfelter, who runs the Vocal Jazz group at Prospect. Brooks is not in the group but wants to be, which also motivated him to audition for ILMEA.
“I love jazz, [the performance] was fantastic, it was very catchy while also being incredibly unique,” Brooks said. “I was hesitant at how many people were in the group but it ended up sounding really well and there were a lot of talented singers in that group.”
Despite having a busy week the same week of auditions, Brooks still managed to get his done and was surprised with the results.
“I was like ‘Oh my god I actually got in, let’s go, that’s awesome,’” Brooks said. “So it gave me a lot of inspiration to keep trying for next year.”
