As a junior I am a member of the 500 something most stressed out people in school. Not only am I a junior but I am a student, along with about 2100 other kids, at one of the top ten high schools in the state and while the stress at any school can get rough, everyone knows that the pressure can be intense the workload can be high. So in the spirit of staying sane, I have started this blog to remind my fellow knights, and myself for that matter, to stop and smell the roses, take a walk in the park or watch a funny movie; essentially want everyone to take a deep breath and smile. Inspired by the website 1000awesomethings.com, I will be posting this blog twice a week until the the end to the school year, 82 times in all, about things that are meant to make you grin. Happy moments, enjoyable memories, blissful feelings; you name it, I’ll post it. Over relax and think happy thoughts.
Thought #1 – Labor Day weekend plans
Labor Day comes at the perfect time every school year in the first weekend of September. Classes have started but nobody is quite in “school mode” yet. Long summer days are still in everyone’s recent memory as they wish for the warm breeze and sunshine the that have been forcibly and suddenly removed from our lives by the school.
It can be a shock to the system going back to school with students thinking “What? I can’t stay up until one in the morning watching movies? I have to get up WHEN?” By the end of the second week of classes everyone is walking around like a bunch of zombies.
Here comes Labor Day to save the sleepless. This fine little holiday is the perfect buffer zone between the summer and school year. It’s gives us a chance to cherish the last moment of summer. There are picnics, barbecues, and parades to celebrate the holiday. Many people see family, go to parties with friends or participate in events. Labor Day is the spark note version of summer; It is a short summary of all the good things of summer.
Even if you are without plans there is nothing to fear. You can sleep until noon if you want, call your friends, watch tv all day and do anything that you can’t do during the school year. Get anything and everything out of your system before the school year and class work goes into high gear.
While you’re having all of this last minute summer fun, don’t stress about the inevitable assignment you received from every single one of your teachers. By all means, do them and do them to well, just do not stress over them. Enjoy this weekend because you will have time to stress out over your work load for weeks in the future.
All in all, live up Labor Day weekend. Enjoys your mini- summer while it lasts. Go outside and feel the sun and the wind, go swimming , spend quality time with your friends and family. Just have fun, relax, and enjoy your Labor Day weekend plans.
