In the right 'Direction'

By Mary-Kate Moloney

Hanson, Backstreet Boys and Nsync were all the rage of teenage girls in the 90’s. Then of course there was the Jonas Brothers fad. But you can’t forget about Big Time Rush, whose biggest mistake was having no cute boys. Seriously though, how do you expect hormone induced young ladies to like BTR if they are about a six at the most on the attractive scale.
One Direction got it right. They have the accents, the looks, but most of all the talent. 1D has it all in the bag, they have the little girls who know every word by heart, and the mothers who ask  Harry Styles to sign their breast.
“Up All Night”, One Direction’s first album, was playful fun music. “What Makes You Beautiful” was the featured song on the album. Perfect for some 12 year old girls to dance to at their slumber parties, or for all the middle school girls to sing along to at the sock-hop.
“Take Me Home”, 1D’s new album is the complete opposite of everything everyone thought One Direction is all about. Their new album features all five of the boys’ talents. As One Direction gets older and matures so does their music. The topics of their songs are more serious and more adult-like. In the new album on track 7, “I want you to rock me, mmm, rock me, mmm, rock me, yeah” you can infer these lyrics however you wish, but it is obvious what they mean.
Louis, Niall, Harry, Zayn and Liam, know how to treat a girl. They know what girls want and what they need. That is one of the many reasons they have such a big following. In the song “Little Things” touches on every girl’s insecurities, and the boys explain that all the little imperfections make you perfect. When Liam sings “You’ve never loved your stomach or your thighs/ the dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine/ but I’ll love them endlessly” how can you not love him, he is basically saying I love you even if you are fat. Hell yeah, who wouldn’t want a guy like that.
Let’s just say the new, more mature One Direction can rock who ever they want. Even if Haylor, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift’s celebrity couple name, is the reason for the teardrops on my guitar.
