Once again, Prospect’s Homecoming parade will delight families and students alike this Thursday, Oct. 8.
The parade starts at Meadows Pool in Mt. Prospect at 5:30 p.m., then will proceed down Gregory St., before turning onto Forest Ave. and entering the track through the back gate of the parking lot.
Families throughout Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect are encouraged to come and see the clubs and activities Prospect has to offer. Even little children will be entertained as the marching band and color guard will be performing and 35 clubs will be represented. The Mt. Prospect police and fire department will also be part of the celebration.
Prospect owes this tradition to Student Council sponsor Lyn Scolaro, who brought back the parade a few years after she began helping with Student Council.
“We needed a parade. I’d never been to a homecoming without one,” she said.
The first year she was worried that no one would show up. Then 10 minutes before, people poured out of their houses and lined up along the sidewalk.
“It was like a scene from ‘The Field of Dreams.’ I cried the whole way, I was so impressed,” Scolaro said.
