Where were you when you learned about the attack?
“I was teaching a sophomore class at Elk Grove.”
What were your reactions to the news?
“We went ahead and turned on the tv in our room so we could watch. As I sat with my sophomore class that morning, we watched the second tower come down. It was extremely emotional and stunning…it looked like an action movie and just the horror that it was on the news instead.”
Michelle Fonsino, Social Science teacher
Where were you when you learned about the attack?
“I was in Principal Dowling’s sociology class. I was a senior at Buffalo Grove.”
What were your reactions to the news?
“We watched the second [plane] hit the tower. Ironically after that we had an already scheduled disaster still. We were freaking out because obviously with the second plane, it was not an error. Then we all had to evacuate, which were totally separate incidences.”
Jan Pacini, Math teacher
Where were you when you learned about the attack?
“I was in class. It was second period. During second period the kids were coming in…somebody had it up on the monitor. By third period we had it up on ours and let the kids watch it.”
What were your reactions to the news?
“You tried not to cry. There was a class full of students and they got extremely quiet…eventually whatever job you had to do, you did it and kind of went on with it. It made the whole day very serious, somber.”
