Soccer uses three game win streak to gain momentum for playoffs

The Knights boys’ soccer team beat Glenbrook South 3-2 on Oct. 14 in their last game before the playoffs. An early equalizer came for the Knights after a penalty kick from senior Ross LaCamera was buried in the back of the net.
The score was knotted 1-1 and it wasn’t until senior forward Yarko Snihur played in a great cross finished off with a goal from junior Dominik Limanowka that the Knights took their first lead of the game, 2-1.
“This was the turning point in the game, it gave our team belief that we could go on and win the game,” Head coach Paul Elkins said.
Prospect sealed the deal after a late goal from senior Ivan Stoilov to go up 3-2.
According to Elkins, the Knights didn’t play particularly well, but after an emotional win on Oct. 13 against Fremd, it was understandable that they might not come out today with as much energy as usual.
“We fought and found a way to make a couple key plays that really helped us win,” Elkins said.
Two senior Knights, Chris Cooney and Nick Jozefowski, were named to the MSL all-conference team.
Currently, Prospect is on a three game win streak which Snihur described as a good streak to build off of going into the playoffs.
“We know we can do it,” Snihur said. “If we get on the same page, we can go as far as possible.”
Elkins said the team is going to take it one game at a time in the playoffs as they approach what he expects to be a closely contested game against West Leyden on the road.
“We have to play together,”  Snihur said. “This is the time we go,”
