Last Friday, April 11, the girls’ track and field team placed second out of seven teams in the Prospect Relays meet.  The Knights lost only to Wheaton-Warrenville South.

Overall, head coach David Wurster is proud of the team’s accomplishments.  They won 7 out of 18 events and set many records as well.  Individually, the Knights set meet field records in the high jump (Jessica Skudlarek 5’4″), the long jump (Catherine Sherwood 17’11”), the shot put (Erin Reese 43’3″) and the discus (Erin Reese 150’0″).  Reese’s discus throw beat the school record by over 10 feet, and currently holds the best throw in the state and is also the 11th best throw in the nation so far this season, according to dyestat.com. In the track events, Christina Santiago set a new meet record in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:09.9.

Wurster believes the team still needs to work on sharpening up relays and their focus, but overall, he was happy with the outcome.

“One of things we can take from it is that our second, third, and fourth competitors all got a chance to compete at a high level,” Wurster said.  “They really get to gain some experience which excites me quite a bit.”
