Badminton wins sectionals, qualifies for state

By Jake Terpins, Sports Editor
On Saturday, May 2 the Prospect girls badminton team won sectionals, qualifying the team and individuals for state.
The Knights had two state qualifiers in singles and two teams qualifying for doubles.
Qualifying for state in singles is Jo Nuehafen (1st in sectionals) and Serena Zhang (2nd in sectionals).
For doubles, qualifying for state is Tia Sadlon and Alex Giannopoulos (1st in sectionals), and Amanda Stickels and Gina Morris (4th in sectionals).
The Knights have worked hard all year and finally got the opportunity to play for the sectional championship.
“We were able to do this because we have worked so hard throughout this entire year and we’ve been here everyday, except Sundays,”  senior Nuehafen said.
The team is led by five seniors, the key being Nuehafen. She has won back to back conference championship titles, and the seniors are excited to get two in a row before they leave Prospect.
”We worked very hard this season, it was a very rewarding win in the sense of how hard we worked,” Nuehafen stated.
This teams biggest strength is having a deep lineup. It’s not just the starters that are good, the backups are good as well according to Stickels. They showed this depth as they cruised through sectionals.
The Knights are leaving for state on Thursday, May 9 as they look to bring home a state trophy.
