Dance team competes at state fourth year in a row

By Manisha Panthee, Features Editor
Prospect’s dance team placed 20th out of 30 teams at state on January 25,

2019, but did not move on to finals as only the top 12 teams go on to day two. Performing at Illinois State University, Senior Bridget Hennelly recalls that their team has been to state every year since she came to Prospect.
Although they didn’t move on to finals as they did last year — the team placed
11th last year — Hennelly said “[state] is a huge opportunity because it’s what every team is working for the entire season.”
This season was different compared to others in that the dance team has two
new coaches this year: Head coach Katina Tole and Assistant Coach Melanie Monnich. Despite the changes, everything went smoothly and similar to years in the past. According to Hennelly, the team wasn’t fully expecting to make it to state this year because they never know who could potentially beat them and so they still had to work hard.
“Our reaction when we found out was just pure joy and some relief to know
that we made it all four years,” Hennelly said.
As Hennelly is a senior and will be graduating this year, she recalls their state performance was full of energy and passion because it could be the last time the three seniors ever did the dance.
“The highlights of my experience was right before we performed,” Hennelly
said. “Everyone was nervous, excited, and emotional about the season coming to an end.”
