This year advanced placement (AP) exams will be taking place from May 6-10 and May 13-17. The tests will take place in the KLC, wrestling room and gyms one and two. The AP exam rosters will be posted outside of room 143 (the assessment center) on Thursday May 2. Students should also check their emails for updates.
According to assessment supervisor Janice Sokolik, Prospect is involved in an implementation program for AP exams. Any student that is taking any of these exams gets a sheet of labels that has their information on it. This speeds up the pre-admit process much more, as it used to take 30-45 minutes just to get ready to take the test.
Approximately 1,048 prospect students will be taking AP exams this year. College Board has 28 different AP exams and Prospect students will be taking about 2,065 different exams in total.
Sokolik advises that students taking these exams should get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast or lunch, arrive on time to the testing locations and not bring any electronic devices.
Students should also bring a photo ID, two number two pencils (no mechanical pencils), two black or blue pens, and a snack. Additionally, students taking math exams should bring a calculator.
Sokolik stated that these exams are helpful because they prepare students for college. The tests give an indication of whether or not a student is college ready, and gives the potential for students to earn college credit.
“Research consistently shows that students who are successful in AP typically experience more academic achievement in college then similar students who do not participate in AP,” Sokolik said.
