PROSPECT PROVIDING FOOD, CARE FOR FAMILIES
March 16, 2020
Prospect High School is collecting gift cards from Jewel and Mariano’s ($25 or $50) on March 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These gift cards will be distributed to food-insecure families affected by the school’s closing during the Coronavirus outbreak. The gift cards can be dropped off at Door 6 at Prospect.
Prospect’s staff has been working hard to assist these families by providing gift cards to students, emptying the school’s food pantry, and sending boxes of food home. Additionally, Kara Kendrick and Tracy Van Hoy collected a few thousand dollars from staff members in order to purchase these gift cards.
The staff will be reaching out to all students who are part of the free lunch program at Prospect.
Van Hoy stresses the importance of helping the families who are food insecure: “Many students in our district come to school to eat. With this, we all knew that it was critical to think about these students and prepare for their needs. We have all heard from families who want to help. We will continue to collect gift cards in the coming days.”
