  • Assistant principal Frank Mirandolasteps up in front of the student body to congratulate the state runner ups and to acknowledge this historic event as it is the highest finish in the girls cross country programs history. “Today we are celebrating a team of young women who selfishly ran for each other,” Mirandola said, “[They] overcame the challenge of the long season, and found a way to do what no other girls’ cross country team has done at Prospect High School.”

  • As head coach Pete Wintermutestands up in front of the audience, including his team, he could not be more proud of what these girls have accomplished. “I stand up here incredibly blessed to be called the coach of this amazing amazing team,” Wintermute said, “These girls are outstanding in all aspects of life as they run for each other, they believe in one another, and they are willing to go above and beyond for their teammates.”

  • Girls athletic director Rebecca Schilz stands up in front of the student body to announce and recognize all of the state athletes who participated in earning the award.

  • Senior Audrey Ginsberg presents Principal Greg Minter and Schilz with the runner up trophy. As the only senior runner on varsity, Ginsberg was able to present the award to the school. Although Ginsberg’s Prospect cross country career is over, she plans to continue her running career in college.

  • The entire girls cross country program poses for a picture in front of the trophy. “On Saturday many [teammates] made the long trip to Peoria and cheered their hearts out,” Wintermute said, “and for that I say thank you thank you thank you.”

  • This is the first time the Prospect girls’ cross country team has brought home a state trophy since 1989, when the team finished in third place. This 2021 season has been nothing less than historic.
