Unwind Wednesdays Bring Yoga to Student Mornings

At 7:45 a.m., students started rolling out yoga mats in Gym 1 to start their Wednesday morning with yoga. An instructor on March 9 was invited from Lifetime Fitness to lead the group of over 50 students.

These yoga classes are a part of Associated Student Body’s (ASB) Wellness Month: a month dedicated to improving mental and physical wellness. Each day of the week features something new. Mondays focus on mindfulness and meditation, starting with an inspirational quote in the announcements. Tuesdays are about random acts of kindness, Wednesdays are about unwinding with yoga and tea sales during lunch hours, Thursdays have group training runs after school and on Fridays, a snack cart moves around the building to fuel students.

All these activities are leading up to the Love Your Brain 5k run/walk on Sunday, April 3 at 10 a.m. The registration profits go towards the Love Your Brain Foundation.

“It’s so rewarding. It’s wonderful to see the athletic support for these yoga classes, too,” ASB sponsor Michelle Fonsino said. “A lot of students have come just because they want to. It’s really been super to see like 75 to 80 kids come … It’s really cool.”
