Prospect food drive takes on surrounding community

November 9, 2022

As we head into the third week of November, Thanksgiving, the season of giving, is creeping up on us. To start off Prospect’s “Provide traditions, “You’ve been Gobbled” is taking place. Gobbled is a food drive run by ASB that donates to families in our community who are in need.

Students participating in the event will drop off empty grocery bags with information about “You’ve Been Gobbled” to houses in their assigned neighborhoods, and residents will then fill the bags with non-perishable food items. Community members who receive a bag and a note on their door are encouraged to place food in the bag, and leave it in front of the door on the designated day that the ASB member said they would pick it up. Once students pick up the bags from their respective houses, the contents will be taken to Northwest Compass and the Mount Prospect Food Drive to be received by people in need.

This charity received upwards of 10,000 items last year and helped hundreds of families in the Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights area. This year, the charity has selected 28 neighborhoods with around 200-400 houses each expected to donate to the charity which will hopefully add to around 14,000 items. The “You’ve Been Gobbled” fod drive runs from Nov. 4 through Nov. 19. This event will continue to improve the holiday season for citizens in the area.

ASB leader and Social Science teacher Michelle Fonsino was a part of the gobbled charity last year and continues to participate in the giving season this year as well.

“In our area, I think a lot of people overlook our population that is in need.” said Fonsino, “So this is our chance to give back to the community in the places that might not be visible to everyone.”

If you receive a bag on your doorstep this season and can help, please consider doing your part for the community and donating to people in need. Although it might not always be visible, there are many places in our community that would immensely benefit from your donations.
