As I was indulging in my nightly TikTok scroll this past weekend, I was met with videos and videos of “Something in the Orange” singer Zach Bryan climbing a barbed wire fence to supposedly confront country singer Gavin Adcock.
Bryan yelled out to Adcock, “Hey, want to fight like a man?” before hitting the fence and then struggling to climb over it.
As the nosey journalist I am, I quickly switched apps over from TikTok to Google to find out what the heck I was watching.
Oklahoma hosted its fourth annual “Born and Raised” country festival, where both Adcock and Bryan were performing. They got into an argument, though, which led to Bryan getting physical.
Right before Adcock went on stage to perform, Bryan pulled up in a truck and started shouting unnecessary threats at him and those surrounding him. Bryan was so irritated that he decided he needed to be on the other side of the fence with Adock, hence the videos of him struggling to get over.
Personally, I found Bryan sitting at the top of the barbed wire kind of funny. How could the same person who created the masterpiece “God Speed” say and do such stupid things at a music festival that he was playing at?
The video shortly went over my head and I didn’t think about it again until I was at work the next day. Two of my coworkers were talking about the incident. They both had the same opinion: yes, Bryan is not the best person, but it doesn’t matter because his music is so good.
That’s when I had to jump in. When do people’s morals get in the way of their enjoyment for certain things like music? More importantly, does that ever happen?
Bryan is not known for being a kind person, and I think this reputation is familiar to people who listen to him, and people who don’t.
Back in October 2024, Brianna LaPaglia (also known as Brianna Chickenfry), host of the “BFFs with Josh Richards” podcast, and Bryan’s ex-girlfriend publicly admitted Bryan cheated on her, ending their relationship. They had been dating for about a year and a half when this happened.
I remember literally listening to Bryan’s “Smaller Acts” (one of his many wholesome love songs) when I found out this news. Let’s just say I turned my spotify off as soon as I could. I hate hypocritical people, and Bryan is another one of them. The problem is, the world loves his music.
I’ll be honest, I do enjoy a good ZB song on the way to Friday night football games, or on a nice, warm summer night. But it gets to a point where society is supporting a terrible man.
Not only did he cheat on his girlfriend, but in 2023, he got arrested for obstructing an investigation.
I know what you’re thinking: so many people cheat on their spouses, why single this one man out? It’s because he is famous and we encourage him. We spend countless dollars to see Bryan perform, knowing deep down that he isn’t a nice celebrity – he’s actually a very crappy one.
When do human morals intervene with their liking for something as simple as country music? There are hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of country artists out there (and to be honest, they kind of all sound the same) and we choose to support and love someone who is genuinely not a good person.
When do morals overpower enjoyment?
