James Voyles is a new PE teacher at Prospect and the Girls’ Bowling Coach. Before, he was the Rolling Meadows’ Athletic Director.
How do Prospect’s athletic facilities, compare to Meadows?
I would say Rolling Meadows High School athletic facilities… inside… are ahead of Prospect’s – you know, obviously it’s a little newer school, maybe by 20 some years. I think, obviously, we have a field house. You know, Rolling Meadows had a field house and a track outside. Facilities here are fine. Obviously, I have more land at Prospect, so there’s just more. We relied heavily on the park district for space. You don’t have to do that here, so that’s kind of convenient when you don’t have to shuttle off campus.
What’s your favorite food?
Mexican food.
Do you prefer working as an Athletic Director or PE teacher more?
I was a teacher for a long, long time. Obviously, the way the things were in this district, you got to be an athletic director and a teacher for a long, long time. So, you know, I’m obviously more rooted in that. I think, I mean, I got into this business for kids, and being a teacher allows you to be in the forefront of trying to inspire kids to get the best out of themselves.
What’s your favorite sport to watch?
I’m a track and field person, so I unfortunately that means you get to watch track every couple years. This is a world championships year. And obviously the Olympics are every four years. So it’s not really on TV much, other than, you know, those time periods.
What’s your favorite sport to play?
I would say… tennis is the favorite sport to play, just because I like individual sports. Like sports where you control your own destiny. I did play team sports, obviously, when I was, you know, all the way through high school and whatever. But there’s just something to be said when you don’t have to rely necessarily on, you know, other people, or you don’t have to be put in a situation where someone else gets to decide who plays.
