Last weekend, May 7, the boy’s gymnastics team participated in the Palatine sectionals competition.
According to coach Randy Smith, the team tried their best and were lucky enough to get three boys to qualify for state competitions.
Senior Ricky Stodulski qualified for the second year in a row on vault , senior Cullen Williams qualified on still rings , and junior Danny Jacobsen qualified on the pommel horse.
Jacobsen said he was excited to be able to participate in a state meet. His only concern was that as his first major competition there would be some nervousness he had yet to experience.
The three qualifiers participated this past weekend, May 14, in the state competition.
Smith said Williams, Stodulski, and Jacobsen all hit their routines and had a great time, but none of them advanced to the final top ten. Williams placed 12 out of 47, Stodulski placed 19 out of 52, and Jacobsen placed 27 out of 49 in their respective finals.
Williams though, missed State by one tenth of a point, and according to Smith, “one tenth to a gymnast goes a long way.” Smith said the boys enjoyed the experience and even some of the younger gymnasts accompanied Jacobsen, Williams, and Stodulski there.
“I’m very proud of the team and excited for Ricky, Cullen, and Danny to experience a State Meet,” Smith said. “The three boys that qualified were paid back for all their hard work with their season concluding in a competition with the best of the best.”
