Company, Mixed Company shine at final competition

By Jenny Johnson
News Editor
Every Saturday for the past two months show choir groups Company and Mixed Company have had, for the most part, successful competitions.
On March 10, show choir had their last competition of the year at Wheaton Warrenville Choral Classic.

This competition was not like others. It was a more advanced competition with schools from seven other states were invited such as, Minnesota, Indiana and Nebraska, making the competition fierce.

In the end, Company was awarded Grand Champions and Best Visual. Mixed Company placed fifth overall.
“I would really love to go back next year,” junior company member Lauren Kinser said. “It’s a really tough competition and it pushed us to challenge ourselves.”
Kinser, along with junior Jamie Kowalczyk were chosen to do the solos for Company and sophomore Jennifer Ruda and junior Emilee McArdle were chosen for Mixed Company.
In these solos, singers preformed their song to a large group of people and judges. Once the song was over, judges asked questions about the chosen song and gave pointers on what to improve upon.
For Kinser, this competition was a nice way to end the season.
“I am really sad that the season is over.” Kinser said. “It was my life for a few months. As the Company girls say it: Forty strong.”
The bond is not broken yet though, Show Choir still has one last show at Prospect on May 10-12 to finish off the year.
