Two rackets were not better than one for the Knights Thursday afternoon when they faced Hersey in a conference match. The Knights were able to win all their singles matches, but lost every doubles match to end the day with a 4-3 loss.
Two of the four doubles matches went into a 3rd set with sophomores Ralph Tenuta and Sam Tambeux and seniors Pat Revesz and Owen Hoepfner both falling short in their last two sets.
Head coach Rick Huffman said he was disappointed with how the match went.
“The doubles matches all looked close and evenly matched,” Huffman said. “I don’t expect to win them all but I expect to win some and we lost all four.”
Revesz agrees that they could have won.
“Our match was winnable, but after our first set I felt like we just didn’t play with enough intensity,” Revesz said.
Even though Huffman was not pleased with the results of the four doubles matches he did see a bright spot in the play of Tenuta and Tambeux.
“[Tenuta and Tambeux] are sophomores playing number one doubles on varsity and they lost a tough three setter but I’m very excited for their potential and even though they are kind of paying their dues this season I am happy with their effort.” Huffman said.
The singles winners for the Knights included Sophomore Carson Burke who won his singles match in two sets and Juniors Robert Moskwa and Alex Yoo who also won in two sets each.
As for the rest of the season, the team wants to finish in the top six and the conference tournament according to Huffman.
“Continuing to improve is always our focus and with the conference tournament coming up we are working toward ironing out the kinks and improving between now and then.”
