Girls’ swimming and diving defeated Wheeling at their senior night on Oct. 10 with a win from all three levels. Varsity won with a point total of 130 over Wheeling’s 54, JV won with 128 points over Wheeling’s 37, and frosh-soph won with 99 points over Wheeling’s 6.
According to junior Michelle Vuong, the seniors on the team are going to be missed next year.
“I think the seniors always try to push us, help us and motivate us to always get [the] best times and work hard, and we’ll really miss them after they leave,” Vuong said.
However, Vuong thinks that her fellow juniors on the team are ready to step up next year in the place of the seniors.
“I really think the juniors can motivate [the team] and keep the same traditions that we have going because we’re a really strong team and I think we can keep doing as well as we did this year,” Vuong said.
Furthermore, on Oct. 3, the girls won against Hersey, and for the first time in six years prevented them from winning the MSL East, and now the team looks ahead to their meet against Buffalo Grove in hopes of winning the MSL East.
According to head coach Alfonso Lopez, he feels confident going into their meet against Buffalo Grove.
“ We’ve only lost one meet, and that was the first dual meet of the year, so the team’s really gelled together,” Lopez said. “I think, in a general sense, we’re at our strongest, and I think if you asked the girls, there isn’t arrogance, just a lot of confidence going into the dual meet.”
