Track program raises money through mattress sale

snoozefestBy Jack McDermott

Sleep, the one thing coveted by all high school students, is once again being supported by the Prospect boys and girls’ track programs during the second annual mattress sale Feb. 15, lasting from 10 a.m.-5p.m. in the commons.

Mattresses may seem like a weird way to raise money, but Mattress Fundraising Team (MFT), the company that makes the mattresses, relies solely on fundraisers for business.  Since they don’t have a showroom, MFT doesn’t have to pay for rent, allowing them to provide huge savings.  Other schools, like Wheeling and Rolling Meadows, have also raised money through this company, and that is where Prospect coaches got the idea from.

“A mattress is something that if you are out looking for one, you could be buying one at a great price and supporting Prospect at the same time,” coach Pete Wintermute said

Last year, the track program raised just under $8000 from the event, and sold one shy of the company record (73).

“When we missed the record by one, all of us competitive coaches were like darn, we are getting it next year,” Wintermute said.

To raise even more money this year, the athletes are putting up signs all over Mt. Prospect and sending emails to friends and family.  Athletes also have a huge incentive to make sales, because for each mattress they personally sell, they get paid $50-$75.
