With the 2nd seed out of the East, freshman Mike Stanford came into the Mid-Suburban League JV conference tournament with a first round bye. Three matches later on a cold and windy day, Stanford walked away conference champion for 3rd JV singles May 17.

The JV conference tournament was held at local sites including Prospect, Rolling Meadows and Palatine. A cold and windy day at hand proved to be a challenge for many of the competitors.

“The wind played a big factor because it affected our ability to judge where the ball would land on the court,” sophomore Tyler Johnson said.

Johnson with his 3rd doubles partner sophomore Steven Norton, took 3rd place by defeating a Rolling Meadows pair. The partners bounced back strong after a loss to Barrington in the semi-finals.

“If we get down, we have to keep our heads up and just play through everything and have fun,” Norton said.

The duo was the one seed from the MSL East and looked to have an easy road up until

they had to face the two seed from the west, Barrington.

“Steven and I communicated well,” Johnson said. “Which led to us taking 3rd in the tournament.”

With a team effort, the JV Knights placed 2nd overall with the help of sophomores Adam Nadler and Jon Riley Branch.

Nadler and Branch took 3rd in the 2nd doubles bracket as the one seed out of the East.

The past two years the JV team had won the East division and are now looking for their turn on varsity next year. With a 2nd place overall conference finish, the team looks to improve their careers with the next couple years on JV and varsity.
