The boys’ basketball team (16-8 overall, 8-2 in conference) suffered another tough loss to Hersey on Friday night.   For the second consecutive game – the first was against St. Viator – the team gave up over 80 points.  In the Hersey game, the Knights lost 84-72 and allowed Hersey to dominate the game.

Hersey took a 6-3 lead at the 6:51 in the first quarter and they led for the rest of the game. The closest Prospect ever got again was within two. Senior Joe LaTulip hit a three at the beginning of the fourth quarter that made the score 58-56, Hersey.

Hersey was able to open the game up due in large part to a 13-2 Hersey run to close out the first half. They led at the half 49-34. Prospect was able to climb back into the game, but they could not stop Hersey’s offense and senior Kyle Miklasz.

Miklasz scored a team high 25 points and he hit five three pointers in the game.

“Miklasz is one of the best players in the conference,” head coach John Camardella said. “He is really difficult to contain when he is on, and he was on tonight.”

LaTulip was also on tonight, especially in the second half. LaTulip exploded for 22 of his 27 points in the second half to keep the Knights close.

“Joe was just ridiculous,” Camardella said. “He did everything that he could to keep us in the game.”

Next up is Wednesday’s conference championship game against Fremd, whose record is a daunting 24-1 overall.

“To have a chance to win the game, we are going to have to play our tempo,” Camardella said. “We also have to make smart decisions at both ends of the floor.”

Fremd is very good offensively as a team and they have a lot of different options, but their two best players are Zach Monaghan and Chris Klimak.

“As a team, they are very big inside,” Camardella said. “They also have one of the best shooters in Monaghan. So on defense, we really have to focus on help side defense and containing their high and low looks, as well as limiting the amount of open looks that they get.”
