Girls' Volleyball defeats Saint Viator in straight sets

Prospect continued their streak of beat St Viator teams in fall sports after a statement victory in girls volleyball 25-16, 25-22 Wednesday night.
The win didn’t come easy however. The Knights played smoothly and efficiently winning the first game 25-16. The trouble came while down 17-11 midway through the second game. Head Coach Laura Gerber called a timeout to get the game back.
“They were getting frazzled and no one was talking,” Gerber said. “I needed them to get back together as a team and playing their game again.”
After the girls regained focus, they took back control of the game going back and forth until they took the lead 23-22.
“It was big,” Senior Emma Cogan said. “I think especially this week being against Viator it was a big win for us. We’ve had a really good preseason so far.”
They took game two and improved to 3-0 during the preseason. The continued success came over a program altering win beating powerhouse Loyola High School in two games a week earlier.
“In the games we’ve played recently, we weren’t expecting to be this good and now we know we can win these games,” Cogan said. “Big things are coming.”
Senior Elizabeth Abraham finished with seven kills, along with Junior Grace Cacini’s five. The Knights were also aided with another four kills from Senior Sloane Petlak and two aces from Junior Mia Farraday.
The Knights will keep the good feeling going when they host Conant High School in their first conference game of the year on September 4.
“It was great endurance, they were down 17-11 and able to come back and win,” Gerber said. “If you can dig deep and come back like that you’re going to have a really successful year.”
