With a third place finish in regional play, Tuesday, Oct. 6 marked the eighth year in a row that Prospect’s boys’ varsity golf team made the IHSA sectionals.

“We made it to sectionals,” senior Matt Maloney said. “We got out.”
Although the team finished behind St. Viator’s impressive score of 297, the Knights were only two strokes behind host school Fremd’s final tally of 324.
Leading the pack was junior Jimi Poulos with a score of 78.  Close behind was junior Cael Kiess, shooting an 80.  Maloney and senior Mike Sokolik followed with scores of 83 and 85, respectively.
Coming off an undefeated season of 11-0, the boys’ golf team switched places with Fremd in the regionals meet: Prospect beat Fremd earlier in the season by two strokes.
According to Maloney, the teams to beat at sectionals are New Trier, Glenbrook South, St. Viator and Fremd.
“[Sectionals] will be fun,” Maloney said, “but a lot of good teams [made it there].  It’s going to be a challenge.”
