Girls' Soccer team battles Conant

By: Nick Stanojevic

Executive Sports Editor

The Conant girls’ soccer team (8-4-2), the 14th best team in the Northwest suburbs, strolled into Prospect surely expecting a win over the underdog Prospect (12-4-2)  team Wendseday.

Instead of rolling over, Prospect fought a great game and forced a 2-2 draw with goals from senior Susie Lello and sophomore Jessica Petrovski. The goals came off assists by senior Jordan Bruce and senior Andrea Wehrle.

Despite fighting and playing hard, both coach Tom Froats and players agree that the tie was not enough.

“I think if we played our game we certainly could have come out on top,” Froats said.

“I was not happy with the tie,” Lello said, “I was proud that we fought hard at the end, but I would have rather won.”

With the MSL East trophy in Hersey’s hands, the team’s main priority is to go as far as possible in the playoffs. Three weeks ago, this seemed impossible. But with the improved play of Lello, Petrovski and senior Megan O’Keefe, alongside the team’s stellar defense, the girls should be competitive.

Froats also attributes the success to something totally unrelated to play.

“The girls are playing with a little more confidence,” he said. “They are recognizing they can play with the best in the area and that will a long way towards improving over the next couple of weeks.”
