50,000 words, 30 days – Nov. 15

Since I am trying to figure out cool angles for each entry, today I talked to Creative Writing teacher Teri Buczinsky about NaNoWriMo. While she claimed not to know a ton about NaNo, she did have a student a few years ago who competed in it.
“She didn’t finish her story, but writing in [NaNoWriMo] helped her as a writer because she wrote more often,” Buczinsky said. “In order to become a better writer, you have to write everyday… which is what [NaNoWriMo] does, it makes people write everyday.”
Besides discussing her student who competed in NaNoWriMo, she also gave me an insight as to what it’s like to be a creative writer.
“You have to have a lot of free time, or learn to balance time,” said Buczinsky. “In [creative writing class] students learn the different types of writing; fiction writing, poetry, we even learn how to write scripts… if you have an idea, take it and run with it.”
Now that I have a teacher source, it’s time to find a student besides myself who is competing in NaNoWriMo. This may take a while.
