Wrestling coach Gary McMorrow's prom experience

By Maddy Moloney
In-Depth Editor
Not only was wrestling coach Gary McMorrow one of the first students to attend   and teach at Prospect but he was also one of the first students to go to prom here. McMorrow attended prom in both 1967 and 1968 with his his longtime girlfriend of three years.
According to McMorrow not too much about prom has changed, girls still get excited to go dress shopping, Busse Flowers is still one of the most popular places to buy corsage and boutonniere (McMorrow purchased his date’s corsage there both years) and the Saturday after prom is still a popular day for a trips to amusement parks or up to a friend’s lake house.
McMorrow says that he and his group of friend would always go to the beach or an amusement park followed with a movie at the end of the day.
However one of the few things that have majorly changes are the social norms. McMorrow said that it was “unheard of”,  of students going alone or in a big group to prom, he said that you either had a date or you didn’t go.
Another big difference between today’s prom and McMorrow’s prom is that people never went out of their way to ask their date. When McMorrow asked his girlfriend he just asked her rather than going out of his way to ask in an extravagant way.
