Holiday toy drive wraps up

Bookkeeper and Student Activities staff member Kirsten Anzalone works at her desk in the Student Activities office. A toy drive collection bin to further encourage both students and staff to donate.

As the holiday season gets even closer, more and more festive acts of charity appear once again. One event is Scrubs Club’s toy drive. You may have heard about it from school announcements or a cardboard dropoff box with the event name written over it.

To honor the feeling of the holiday season, the toy drive’s purpose was to collect donated gifts for patients at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital. Since being away from home in a hospital can oftentimes be lonely, the donated presents are meant to help raise spirits and show support to those undergoing medical treatment.

Collection bins were placed in the school’s activities office, as well as the Mount Prospect Library and frozen yogurt store, Berry Yo, in downtown Arlington Heights.

Bookkeeper and Student Activities staff member Kirsten Anzalone said that she was amazed by the motivation the club had for the drive.

“They’re all really passionate about the [toy drive], which is awesome,” Anzalone said. “They liked to keep me updated and tell me ‘there were this many at Berry Yo’ or ‘there were this many at the library.’ [I could tell] they were excited when the bins got full, which was fun.”

The toy drive ended on December 22, the last day before winter break. Looking back, Anzalone enjoyed working with the club.

“It was more [fun] than hard work,” Anzalone said.
