The Knight of the Week this week is junior Lucia Peshak. She is involved in a variety of activities at Prospect, including being part of the leadership teams for Service Club, Scrubs Club and ASB.
Q: What inspired you to join ASB?
A: I remember seeing certain people, my freshman year, who were on volleyball with me, and they were part of it, and they were kind of the faces of Prospect. And I was like, “Wait, I can see myself doing that. That sounds like fun.” It’s so much fun getting to have a greater say in what goes on in the school — getting to have that voice and power.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being part of ASB?
A: I love getting to plan the events. Homecoming was actually my favorite thing ever because we put so much time and effort into it. Especially in the beginning of the year, we’re constantly going in early and planning stuff and decorating stuff. With the masquerade theme, it was so fun getting to choose what the decorations were. We started that last year, my sophomore year, trying to decide what we wanted to do. So it was so fun to see things come together.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your time on ASB?
A: We had a bonfire over the summer, and that was a lot of fun, because it was a bunch of people getting to meet each other. I knew some of them, but many, I didn’t really know. Getting to talk with everyone, and making s’mores, was really fun.
Q: How would you describe the community in ASB?
A: Motivated. Everyone’s there for a common goal and purpose. It’s just to make Prospect feel like more of a community. We’re all coming together, and motivated to make that happen. It’s really nice to be around people who also want to achieve those goals.
Q: What is something most students don’t know about the behind-the-scenes work that ASB does?
A: It’s a lot more planning than I originally knew. There’s so much stuff you don’t realize you have to plan. You have to think of the budget and how everything’s going to go together. Everything, like a lot of the designs, the movies and the decorations, has to get approved by an upper power, whether it’s the board or Mirandola. You have to get really creative with certain things, trying to make sure that what you’re putting out there not only makes everyone else feel happy and comfortable, but is also allowed.
Q: Out of everything you’ve done with ASB, what do you think has had the biggest impact and why?
A: Homecoming. Not only are the students coming together, but I feel like homecoming week is a sort of community thing, like with parents coming to watch the game. It brings together a lot of students, because we’re also trying to make sure we include freshmen up to seniors. You really get to know everyone in the school.
Q: How do you feel like you personally have grown as a result of your time on ASB?
A: It’s definitely made me more aware of time management, because we often have to meet deadlines for certain things we want to put in the announcements, certain activities we want to push or decorations and planning of placing orders. You’re not only concerned about what you have to do, but also your team. Everyone has stuff going on, so it’s also helping each other out and giving each other a hand. If one person can’t get something done by the deadline, you’re like, “Hey, I got you. I’ll take this off your plate — I have the time to.”
Q: What are you looking forward to with your last year on ASB?
A: I’m really excited for it. I think about that all the time, because it will be so much fun. I’ll be a senior, and at that point in time, I’ll have three years of experience. Getting to be a leader in this and have a powerful voice in what we want to achieve, and also just getting to meet younger students is so exciting.
