Immigration enforcement has taken place all over our town. On October 19, federal agents flooded the Owen Park "triangle" neighborhood searching for a man they claimed at one point to be a "sex offender." They told another resident the man was a "murder suspect." Others were told the man was a gang member. ProspectorNow.com has not been able to confirm whether the man was any of the above things. Mount Prospect Police were not notified of the federal activity until they received calls from concerned residents.
We have seen heavily armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents strike neighbors to the ground. We’ve heard helicopters hovering above our houses, searching for undocumented immigrants. Neighbors - people I know - have documented ICE trespassing on their property without a warrant: a violation of the fourth amendment, which guarantees protection against unreasonable search and seizure.
More than 170 U.S citizens have been held by immigration agents this year, as of October 19, according to ProPublica.
Federal forces don't just live in our social media feeds: they’re here in Mount Prospect.
This deportation campaign isn’t some distant event: I’ve reported, in person, on what looked like soldiers marching outside of my best friend's house.
ProspectorNow.com is a community news site at a community school. Our community, and nearby communities, have been filled with militarized federal agents.
