The college decision for any high school student is a struggle, but for student athletes, looking to play at the next level is an even more in-depth process. On Nov. 12, seniors Luke Karz, Isabella Flack and Dana Liva, signed their National Letters of Intent to their respected schools.
Karz will be playing baseball at Presbyterian College (South Carolina), Flack will be playing golf at Ferris State (Michigan) while Liva will dive at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“It was a great feeling just to know that I’m done,” Liva said. “There’s no changing. Everything is set in stone.”
Wisconsin had not known about Liva until seeing her at a club meet this past summer. The coaching staff immediately told her to visit, and within an hour of the meet, the appointment was scheduled.
“It was my first recruiting trip, and I immediately fell in love with the campus, [the] coach and everybody on the team,” Liva said. “Wisconsin was definitely it.”
Likewise, Flack’s experience of signing day was like none other. She thanks her coaches and teammates for her success throughout her high school career.
“[Head coach Jim] Hamann’s been a good coach and inspired me to play [in college],” Flack said.
Looking at her future college career, Flack’s goal is to be on the lineup freshman year because of the qualification for roster positionings.
Liva also has big plans for her career at Wisconsin and has already developed relationships with future teammates.
“We’re getting really close,” Liva said. “They text me all the time congratulating me during the high school season and they update me about what they’re doing there. Just a lot of cool stuff between us.”
Liva’s coach Antonino Bondi likes the decision Liva made with Wisconsin.
“I think it’s a good decision because she’s happy,” Bondi said. “My only two cents I threw in was to go to a school you think is a good fit for you. All the schools have good diving programs, but [she needed] to pick a program that [she] felt comfortable with.”
