Prospect girls swim and dive held a car wash at Circle Drive on August 24th between 12 and 1:30 p.m.  According to head coach, Alfonso Lopez the car wash has been a tradition of the girls swim and dive team for 10 to 12 years.

Last year they raised around $900, which helped with the cost of the banquet that the team has for the swimmers and their families every year . Another part of the money went to new caps, championship meets, and other extras for the girls on the team.

This year the team raised even more money. Coming out to a total  of $1000. The car wash is a great way for the team to raise money, but it’s also another way for the upper and lower classmen to bond.

“That’s kind of why it’s donations is because the main goal of this is to get the team together and do something together. Most of the time because we’re practicing it’s your lane and you’re focused on practicing, and it’s not a social time, but this can be,” Lopez said.

According to junior Sarah Miller this is one of the activities she looks forward to during the season, because it’s a great way to get closer to her teammates.

“It’s a lot of fun. It helps the freshmen get more comfortable with the upperclassmen and helps everyone get to know each other,” Miller said.

Along with the car wash they did team building activities that consisted of different “silly” games geared towards learning each others names like a scavenger hunt in which only animal noises could be used.

“I feel like we’re bonding more and becoming more of a team, and if we get closer to each other we’ll have better relays and push each other harder,” freshman Mallory Malone said.
