Sage Gilliland is a third year KnightMedia staff member, this time a Copy Editor. Despite just recently joining Instagram, she’s very in touch with what’s going on in the world, and even more so in our community and our school.
Last year, Sage asked a question that led to a huge story that not only resulted in her being interviewed by local media, but in direct tangible action.
She noticed the theater at Prospect was called the “Kulieke” theater – so who’s Kulieke? Turns out the name “Kulieke” referred to Prospect’s first principal, Alvin Kulieke. Great, cool. Why is this a big deal? Well, as Sage uncovered, Kulieke was involved with the Urantia movement, a group whose founding text advocates for eugenics.
She’s gotten enough glaze for that story, though – Sage’s real specialty is news coverage. In 48 hours she’ll grind out an amazing news brief on something going on at school or in the community – a great example of this is her short news story on the Village of Arlington Heights’ pride flag policy, which you can read below.
