It was a cold and muddy Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop the juggernaut that was the Prospect boy’s cross-country team. The team dominated their regional at Busse Woods, with an overall team score of 25.
Their closest competitor, Schaumburg, landed far back from the Knights, with a score of 65. In third was Maine West, scoring 85, barely beating Rolling Meadows’ overall score of 87. (Note: lower scores are better in cross-country.)
Leading the pack for Prospect was senior Chris Spudic, placing second in the race and finishing just under 16 minutes with a time of 15:53. Right behind him was senior Albert Ciolek, crossing the finish line at the 16:05 mark. Rounding out the top five was junior Kellan Strobel with a time of 16:14.
All three runners received medals for their performances. Strobel said that Saturday may have been the first time Prospect got three medalists in a regional, an accomplishment magnified by the fact that the Knights were missing a few key runners due to illness, including junior Matt Ashton and senior Kenny Halloran.
“We just manned up and ran our race,” Strobel said.
