It’s a premature relationship following a harsh break-up. It’s the name of the lackluster 2005 Martin Lawrence sports comedy. It was also the girls’ basketball team’s main goal for their game against Buffalo Grove on Friday night.
Rebound.
The reason why rebounding was top priority was because the team lacked it in their game against Hoffman Estates last Tuesday. The team barely squeaked by with a victory, winning by only three points, thanks to fourth quarter comeback. But the team showed a weakness while playing the Hawks, according to junior Sarah Winans.
“We didn’t really play our game,” Winans said. “We weren’t going at our usual pace and we could’ve done a better job.”
Winans said that after Tuesday, the team knew they really had to improve their rebounding if they wanted to win on Friday. So, during the week’s practices, the team was intent on getting rebounds and transitioning. They also wanted to get quick baskets and tire out the Bison.
That “better job” was completed Friday night when Lady Knights (7-0 overall) handily defeated the Bison by a score of 56-44. Leading the team in points along with seniors Alexis Glennon (15) and Rachel Hunt (15), Winans (14) and the girls did, in fact, out-rebound Buffalo Grove 37-18.
“We were all fired up about it,” Winans said. “It was just a fun day all around.”
