Boys Track and Field Wins MSL East Title

Boys+Track+and+Field+Wins+MSL+East+Title

By Rick Lytle, Online Editor-in-Chief
The boys track and field program continues to dominate their MSL East opponents. They won their 10th straight division title on Apr. 16. The Knights scored 200 points, 41 points clear of second place.
“The guys were pumped up, as it’s exciting to win ten in a row. This shows shows the stability of the program, with new kids each year winning the MSL East,” Head Coach Jay Renaud said.
The team was lead by a highlight performance from Senior Nathan Kowalski. Kowalski placed second in the 110m hurdles, third in the high jump, first in the long jump and first in the 300m hurdles.
“Overall, I was super excited with my races. It’s always a great feeling to know you competed well in a meet and that you laid it all out on the track,” Kowalski said.
Kowalski had a personal record in the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.05 seconds.
Other key performers from the meet were Tim Zalinski, John Moellenkamp, and Michael Shafis. Zalinski placed in the top two in three events, Moellenkamp was top three in three events, and Shafis finished in the top three in three events.
“I definitely think [the team’s history] brought the guys confidence. Most of them had been in this situation before,” Renaud said.
Kowalski saw a similar confidence in himself to what Renaud described for the team, due to personal experience in the meet and seeing previous Prospect teams winning.
While the team is happy with the division championship, they are focused on future meets and believe they can achieve even more.
“Our eyes are on the conference title. It’s easy to become complacent with good times or great meets, and you want to take your foot off the accelerator. The most important thing we need to continue doing is pushing ourselves,” Kowalski said.
